recently I had an epiphany I've had like a million times - so not really an epiphany at all hehe - that what I really want to do, like REALLY REALLY want to do, is write and illustrate my own stories 🌿 case in point, I feel like I've written this exact sentence a dozen times before.⁣ .⁣ .⁣ I realised one of the big things that was holding me back from doing it is how reckless it feels to go ALL IN on something. not just dabbling when I have a spare 20 minutes, but truly going for it. it's scary because saying yes to that big dreamy goal means saying no to a lot of other things - potentially more practical, easy, attractive things. especially because the sort of projects I have in mind might take years, and that's a lot of time! 👀 but I also know if I die without telling these stories my ghost will be pissed. I know that it can be hard to create stuff regardless of what it is, so I might as well make what I love. I know that the thing separating me and the people who do what I want to do is not skill level, time, money or qualifications; it's that they made the decision to do something they loved and they did it. I know that doing anything else feels like killing time. I know I'm a good writer and a good painter, good enough to make it happen, so why not? why not why not why not?⁣ .⁣ .⁣ so I've been getting up earlier and dedicating the first chunk of every day to plugging away at my stories. as for painting, I've been sticking to 30 min speed paints (this was one of them) so I can practice painting at a speed that's realistic for illustrating entire plots. I don't know whether it will be worth it, but I know I don't want to wait anymore. have I said this before? probably. isn't it crazy how we can spend literally YEARS telling ourselves we'll do something before we actually do it? anyway, that's my braindump for the day. what about you? 💖

I feel like I'm getting somewhere ☺️ I feel like I know the type of work I want to make. sometimes I forget, and I get distracted - by looking at other people's art and comparing myself, mostly - but I keep coming back to the same realisations over and over.
